Shyam Hansda (Dangdug village, Boram block, East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand) is able to withdraw his NREGA wages after several attempts at biometric authentication at the Aadhaar-based point of sale (PoS) machine. After a few attempts, the banking correspondent suggests that Shyam Hansda puts oil on his fingers successful authentication. He takes oil from another worker’s head who was standing next to him. The anxiety of this ordeal is clearly visible on Shyam’s face.
